I really want to help many of you get more comments, with providing AoE with all it's staff, to help every one of you become more noticed. However it frustrates me that many are still not taking part and yet are unhappy at how unnoticed they are.
AoE has always encouraged artists to comment and critique artwork. We get so many artists wanting to have more comments on their work, and feel disappointed that they don't get any. There's no magic solution to this, but I can give some pointers on getting more.
NETWORK
Sadly, yes. This *really* is the way you're going to get noticed as an artist. Think about it, if you don't put yourself out there - giving feedback on other artists work and generally being friendly - how will artists know to take notice of you?
We would all love for a lot of established artists to fall in love with us and everyone from the groups we submit to, to notice us. The reality of that? Almost impossible!
There are many artists on DA who only ever post "gd work well done" on other members work. Are you one of them?
Think about it; Would this say to you that the commenting Deviant stands out enough to take notice of? That their opinion clearly matters? Not really does it?
How many of you have thought - Oh I'll do all of that another day, just not today - and that day never comes? Can't be bothered or too hard to 'Network' that day?
Another thing to think about - If you don't put yourself out there, how will anyone know how to find you? Posting on a friends page won't often get you noticed, it's extending yourself into the unknown that gets you seen. Afterall, there is a LOT of artists on DA!

Don't hit that
button and leave the page just yet!
Consider commenting.
Take another minute to write out WHY you like the work you're commenting on, not just telling them it's 'good'. Reach out how you would like to be spoken to. Give them something to like you for & feel good about.
If you feel you can give critique or feedback, consider the positive - negative - positive approach. Explain a technique you use or give a suggestion, how you think something could be improved. Keep it nice, keep it polite. People only learn from constructive advice, not plain & harsh picking!
Look through their other work, consider "watching" them.
It's not uncommon to find many artists feel lonely and trapped by their abilities, there's also a lot of rivalry. Consider also how your post may read to someone younger than yourself. Use spell check too if you're unsure.
Tip for the receiving artist
If someone has taken the time to comment on your work and may be giving tips - Don't take it harshly as a sign of being a bad artist.
They've taken the time to comment on your work afterall! Yes there may be the odd person out there trying to inflate their own ego but if they're offering suggestions, don't be too stuck in your comfort zone to take in what they're saying. We all know it's hard taking advice from others, especially when it's for something we feel we are good at.
But remember, if you're wanting to develop as an artist, their suggestion is there. Respond politely, and consider being friendly back, even if you're not going to take the advice. You never know where it might lead to, and taking help really is okay! We all have had to learn from suggestions.
But I'm part of a group, why isn't that giving me more comments?
Exposing your artwork to a large group such as AoE can get you a lot of great feedback and exposure. However remember; some deviants don't comment on any work they see pop up in their Messages feed. They will only go and submit artwork to a group, and never bother to view the other members submissions. If you then have the majority of a group only ever doing this, there is a mass effect of a lot of take and very little give. How often have you seen someone say "There's not enough good and helpful critiques/comments out there now" Not very good is it?
Deviants need to start a chain effect, you're all part of a big group of artists. What you do affects other artists, what they do affects you. Give out a couple of good intended comments on artwork, a few comments here and there - you're not going to get hundreds of comments overnight, however a little each day/week will get you gradually noticed.
You're changing someones very life by just commenting on their work. We all take in what people say, and someone reading YOUR comment means they're on the PC or Laptop for another minute or so, taking in advice, changing the entire pattern of how their life unfolds. It might start them off looking at new techniques or tools, and that might lead them to becoming confident in their work, and eventually helping others. Isn't that such a great thing to do? You may not know how you've influenced an artist, but I can assure you, your efforts mean something.
Does any of this even work?
YES! When I first joined DA 6 years ago, like you, I wanted comments, recognition & hundreds of followers - FAST. I sat around waiting for comments, and no one noticed me. I had to go out and REALLY push myself to post on other peoples artwork. Not just a "well done" but thought out comments or critique. It also meant learning how to take criticism too. It was hard work, I was fed up of not getting enough recognition.
Over the years, I've built up quite a lot of watchers and a lot of comments on my work. Not as many as I'd like of course, many of my watchers are inactive, it makes me a tiny bit sad sometimes, but we all start small!
I haven't had as much time to post around on others work, so guess what I've noticed? Comments on my work have gone down too!
Conclusion
Just get out there and network. Sometimes you have to take the step to be noticed first, not wait around for everyone else
You only get one life, and it's pointless sitting waiting to get noticed. Push yourself out there and let other artists know their work is liked. You might just make someones day, and even a new friend. I think I speak for a lot of us that it would be nice to feel more noticed on DA.

What's New

As of Monday 29th April 2019 we are accepting artwork for sale. This includes Adopts, YHH etc. This new folder is on trial and if successful, will become permanent. The rules are set out below and because this folder is new, more rules might be added as we go. You can also view them here:

Seriously Need Help! Update

:thumb325233783: It has recently come to my attention that a couple of people said the Digital Art folder was full, however, this is not the case. Other artists are still submitting to this folder successfully. The only issue as far as I can see is that the folders are not titled with the current date which needs updating. This and other features are only accessible with Super Group.
So, with that being said, we've sent out a few journals to say we need major Points to keep AoE in Super Group status, which we are currently not.

Excellent pointers here 
I've been acting friendly/encouraging as much as possible and it's doing well for me. Well enough for one of my favourite artists - an idol of sorts - to actually watch me 8D
It helps a lot replying to comments too, as that encourages more people to comment because they know their comment will be noticed and read.
